Aftershock Marks Quakes’ Anniversaries
A magnitude 3.0 aftershock struck on the third anniversary of the Landers and Big Bear earthquakes.
The epicenter for Wednesday’s aftershock was seven miles northeast of Big Bear Lake, according to the Caltech in Pasadena.
Wednesday marked the third anniversary of the Landers and Big Bear earthquakes that injured 400 people and caused more than $92 million in damage to 4,369 homes and 168 businesses. One person was killed--a 3-year-old boy who was sleeping next to a chimney that collapsed.
The magnitude 7.5 Landers quake was the strongest to rock Southern California in 40 years. A 6.7 quake centered near Big Bear struck later that day.
