San Gabriel Valley : WATER FIGHT
High school students in San Dimas have turned teir backs on the biggest attraction in town, presenting a 6,000-signature petition to the City Council against the proposed expansion of Raging Waters.
The park is the largest employer in the east San Gabriel Valley, and most season passes belong to students, Raging Waters officials said. But leaders of the United Eco Clubs of the San Gabriel Valley, a consortium of 14 student environmental groups, said their petitions were signed by young people throughout Los Angeles County who fear that the expansion would hurt the surrounding ecosystem. Raging Waters is in the county’s 2,000-acre Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park.
Raging Waters wants to expand the park from 69 to 98 acres for projects including a retail village and expanded water attractions.
“Any suggestion that Bonelli Park is going to be [overdeveloped] is complete nonsense,” said Andrew Haworth-Booth, Raging Waters’ president.
