MOTOR SPORTS : Wire-to-Wire Journey Nets 4th for Woodside

Super Late Model driver Sean Woodside had it all figured out.

Since they were racing on his turf, it was his race to win.

Woodside made all the right calculations Saturday night, going wire to wire in the 50-lap main event for his fourth feature victory of the season at Saugus Raceway.

However, the race wasn’t easy for the Saugus driver, who received stiff competition from Ray Hooper Jr. and Nick Joanides.

Joanides, from Woodland Hills, made a run at Woodside with about 10 laps to go before one of his rear tires blew in a collision. Hooper then made one last run at Woodside but was unable to catch him.

In the Pure Stock division, Amy Horst and her brother, Brian, continued their success.

Brian won the 15-lap feature, maintaining his perfect record of four victories in as many starts.

Brian and Amy started in the back row of an eight-car field but both maneuvered to the front by the eighth lap.

Amy assumed the lead on Lap 8 but spun out on the next lap. Brian finished the race uncontested.

In the Mini-Stock main, West Hills driver Robert Hynes lost a significant lead on a yellow flag on Lap 5.

Hynes was ahead of the pack by nearly a full straightaway when Brian Stocks crashed. That opened the door for Terry Limberopoulos to claim his fourth feature of the season.
