Promoter Don King ridiculed HBO’s proposed heavyweight tournament, calling it a warm-up event to find an opponent for former champion Mike Tyson.

To try to unify the heavyweight title, HBO reportedly is planning a tournament featuring eight former or current champions who aren’t under contract to King.

Lightweight champion Miguel Angel Gonzalez will defend his title against Lamar Murphy, and Julian Jackson will defend his middleweight championship against Quincy Taylor on the undercard of the Mike Tyson-Peter McNeeley fight in Las Vegas on Aug. 19.
