BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Padres Return Roberts to Disabled List
San Diego utility player Bip Roberts returned to the disabled list, retroactive to Friday, because a strained right quadriceps. Roberts was put on the disabled list in late June because of the injury and was activated before Thursday’s game against Atlanta.

The New York Yankees activated pitcher Scott Kamieniecki, who had been on the disabled list since May 5 because of a shoulder injury. In two starts Kamieniecki (0-1, 8.44 ERA) has given up five runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

The Milwaukee Brewers promoted right-hander Jamie McAndrew from triple-A New Orleans, making him the eighth rookie pitcher on the team’s 25-man roster. McAndrew, a 6-2, 190-pound former punter at the University of Florida, took catcher Joe Oliver’s spot on the roster. Oliver is out for up to six weeks because of a broken left wrist.
