South Bay : WAVE WARS

Share

A group of South Bay surfers who claim they have been terrorized by a group of Palos Verdes Peninsula locals have taken their battle from the ocean to the courtroom.

The surfers, a loose-knit group of friends from several South Bay beach communities, filed a civil complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court against a group of surfers known as “the Bay Boys” for “physical assault, vandalism, harassment, rock-throwing from cliff tops, death threats, embezzlement and other terrorist-like activities.”

The lawsuit also names the city of Palos Verdes Estates as a defendant, saying city officials have known about the activities of the Bay Boys for more than two decades but have done little to stop them.

The incidents have occurred at picturesque Lunada Bay, where big winter waves attract surfers from around the world.

City officials who could comment on the case were in Australia on city business. It’s not known whether surfing was on the agenda.
