OXNARD : Crime Bill Funds Will Buy Police Computers

Share

The Oxnard Police Department will receive $168,195 in federal grant money to hire two new workers and buy 30 laptop computers, police spokesman David Keith said.

Oxnard was one of 14 California cities chosen to receive a total of $13 million in coming weeks. The grant money, which comes from the 1994 Crime Bill, is intended to help city police departments free up officers by upgrading computer equipment and hiring civilian administrative assistants.

Oxnard will use the money to deploy two community-service officers to handle low-priority calls and purchase laptop computers to speed up the crime scene reporting process, Keith said.
