Deion Sanders highlighted his home debut by hitting a two-run double against his former team, helping the San Francisco Giants beat the Cincinnati Reds, 4-1, Wednesday night.

Sanders, traded last week in an eight-player deal, went two for four, drawing cheers from the paid crowd of 17,648.

With one out left in the game, a young fan climbed over the center-field fence and ran toward Sanders. The man imitated Sanders’ touchdown celebration dance right in front of him, drawing laughs and a high five from Sanders.

Mark Leiter (5-6) pitched a two-hitter and Barry Bonds hit his 21st home run.

Leiter struck out eight and walked none. He held the Reds hitless and faced the minimum through five innings before Bret Boone led off the sixth with a solid single to center. He then allowed only one more more hit, a home run by Ron Gant to lead off the eighth, in his third complete game.

Leiter’s previous best was a four-hitter.

Earlier in the day, Sanders met with reporters at Candlestick Park in the 49ers’ locker room. Sanders, a two-sport star who helped San Francisco to the Super Bowl championship last season, is being courted by several NFL teams even though he won’t be eligible to play football until October.

Sanders noticed that his name had been removed above his 49er locker.

“I’ll bet it’s up in a few different cities right now,” he joked.

Philadelphia 2-6, Pittsburgh 1-4--Pinch-hitter Tony Longmire hit a towering three-run homer in the eighth inning of the second game to help complete a double-header sweep at Philadelphia.

The Phillies won the opener on Mickey Morandini’s sacrifice fly in the 11th inning.

Philadelphia trailed, 4-3, in the second game when Charlie Hayes opened the eighth with a double off reliever Mike Dyer (3-2). After a failed sacrifice, Lenny Webster walked to set up Longmire.

Montreal 4, Chicago 2--Butch Henry didn’t pitch well, giving up 12 hits and a walk in 6 1/3 innings, but earned his third consecutive victory thanks to home runs by Rondell White and Sean Berry at Chicago.

The Cubs stranded 11 runners, all in the first seven innings.

Meanwhile, Kevin Foster (7-7) has given up nine home runs in his last three outings.

St. Louis 3, New York 2--Left fielder Bernard Gilkey homered and drove in the winning run in the 11th inning at St. Louis.

Center fielder Ray Lankford drove in the tying run and made a potential game-saving catch in the eighth with a runner on second.

A day earlier, right fielder Brian Jordan homered twice and got the game-winning hit in an 8-7, 11-inning victory.

Houston 4, Colorado 3--Pitcher Darryl Kile left the bases loaded in each of the first three innings and hit a two-run single to help end his five-game losing streak at Houston.

Kile (4-10) had not won since June 19. He allowed only one run in the first three innings, when he walked six.

Houston Manager Terry Collins sent reliever Jeff Tabaka to warm up after Kile’s fourth walk with no outs in the second inning. But Kile regained his control and lasted seven innings. He allowed seven hits, walked six and struck out eight.
