LAGUNA BEACH : Main Beach Park Repair Completed

The storms are long gone, the sun is shining brightly and Main Beach Park is welcoming visitors again. The park, which typically draws sunbathers, volleyball players and a steady stream of tourists, took a pounding during back-to-back January storms that wiped out about 100 feet of the boardwalk and seriously eroded the shore.
Though the boardwalk reopened for the Fourth of July, the replanted grassy areas remained roped off until today.
To celebrate the completion of the $400,000 restoration project, the city and Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring a beachside celebration beginning at 10:45 a.m. Highlights will be a World’s Best Picnic Basket contest and music by a 35-member Marine Corps band.
City staffers said Thursday they are relieved that the restoration is finally done. “Everybody worked very hard in trying to bring the project to completion,” said Terry Brandt, director of municipal services.
