BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJORS : Dibble Signs, Goes to Minors
Rob Dibble, suspended for throwing at Milwaukee second baseman Pat Listach’s head last month, signed a minor league contract with the Brewers.
Dibble, released by Chicago on July 16 before he could begin serving his three-game suspension, will report to triple-A New Orleans on Monday, General Manager Sal Bando said.
Dibble will have to serve his suspension if he joins the Brewers.
Dibble was 0-1 with a save and a 6.38 ERA in 16 relief appearances with the White Sox.

The Baltimore Orioles may be able to count on Ben McDonald during the stretch drive in September, but the right-hander won’t be of much help before then.
McDonald, 2-6 with a 4.63 ERA, returned to the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with tendinitis in his right shoulder. He came to California Thursday to get a second opinion, and the diagnosis was far from encouraging.
“I’ve got good news and bad news,” McDonald said in the Baltimore. “The good news is that it’s just tendinitis, and it’s nothing serious.
“The bad news is that I need rest. Quite a bit of rest,” he said. “I’m hoping to get back late August or early September.”
