San Gabriel Valley : Pasadena Opposes Delaying Blue Line
Pasadena’s elected leaders have their own line on the county’s effort to get its hands on transit funds to help balance the budget. The Blue Line, to be specific.
In an emergency vote, the City Council decided to ask Gov. Pete Wilson to veto a bill that would divert $75 million from county transit funds for five years. That would delay construction of the Pasadena Blue Line for five to seven years.
The bill, sent to the governor last week, would transfer sales tax revenue earmarked for transportation to the county’s general fund.
“This is not intended to be a rail vs. hospital issue,” said Pasadena Councilman William Crowfoot.
The Pasadena Blue Line, which is scheduled to be completed by 2000, is a 13-mile light rail from Downtown Los Angeles to Pasadena. The line eventually will expand to Duarte.
