Los Angeles police were searching Tuesday for a man accused of killing his brother-in-law in the courtyard of a North Hills apartment complex where they both lived.

The suspect, Ricardo Morfin, 34, is wanted in the shooting of his wife’s brother, Miguel Angel Madriz, 24, who died Monday shortly after 11 p.m. after suffering a gunshot wound to his upper torso, LAPD Detective William Berndt said.

Morfin and Madriz, who had argued many times in the past, shared an apartment with eight other relatives at a complex in the 9000 block of Langdon Avenue, LAPD Detective Marshall White said.

“They never got along,” White said of the two men. “This was probably the result of several other arguments that culminated in him shooting his brother-in-law.” An argument between Morfin and Madriz that began in their apartment spilled out into the courtyard where witnesses told police they saw Morfin shoot Madriz and then run from the scene. White said border officials have been alerted to be on the lookout for Morfin, who is a native of Michoacan, Mexico.
