OXNARD : Owners Can Appeal Cleanup Charges
- Share via
Oxnard officials will give landowners a chance to gripe Tuesday about being charged for the removal of weeds and trash on their property.
City officials mailed out notices to the property owners of 814 parcels asking them to clear the trash.
When the owners of 68 parcels did not clean up their lots, the city’s contractor moved in and cleared the lots for them.
Landowners can appeal the city’s move at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
“It is a fire and nuisance abatement process,” said City Manager Tom Frutchey, adding that commercial landowners usually let the city do the work for them. “We typically don’t have appeals.”
Officials said the lots cleared by the city were mainly vacant commercial lots. Costs for weed abatement vary according to the size of the parcel. The city’s weed abatement budget for next year is $10,300.
