OXNARD : Bus Route to Serve High School Students

Share

The regional public transportation system is launching a new bus route to serve students to and from the new Oxnard High School.

South Coast Area Transit will begin the new route, known as Route 18, on Sept. 5, and it will provide three trips a day, Monday through Friday.

SCAT decided to begin the route because there was no bus service in the area where the high school is located--at Gonzalez Road, between Patterson Road and Victoria Avenue.

Many students do not qualify for school bus service because their homes are too close to the school. Bus service is only provided to students living more than three miles from campus, school officials said.

The morning bus arrives at Oxnard High School at 7:50 a.m., the midday bus leaves the school at 12:45 p.m. and the final bus leaves school at 3:20 p.m. Each of these trips makes a stop at the Oxnard Transportation Center, at 4th Street and Oxnard Boulevard, for passengers transferring to other SCAT buses.

SCAT will adjust the Route 18 schedule as needed on days that school lets out early, and the bus will not run on school holidays.

Although SCAT added the new route because of the large number of students taking the bus, anyone may ride it. The fare for students is 75 cents; other riders must pay the full $1 fare. For more information, call 643-3158.
