Running back Chuck Levy, last year’s second-round draft choice of the Arizona Cardinals, returned to the team Friday after missing two days for what Coach Buddy Ryan said were personal reasons.

Levy, who has acknowledged that the NFL may suspend him for a violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy, declined comment on reports that he made a trip to Washington to plead his case.

Last week, the league suspended second-year linebacker Jamir Miller for the first four regular-season games, a penalty which will cost Miller $100,000 of his $425,000 salary.

Ryan said Levy, who also missed a day of training camp Aug. 10 and hadn’t practiced since Tuesday, will travel with the Cardinals for their game Sunday against the Chicago Bears, but not play.

“We haven’t used him so far. Why would we use him now?” Ryan said.

A proposal that would attach a domed stadium for the Chicago Bears to the McCormick Place convention center is just that, a proposal, and has not been endorsed by Gov. Jim Edgar, his deputy chief of staff said.

“People in the investment banking community are suggesting it might be an option,” said Andy Foster, Edgar’s point man on the stadium issue. “Until we see it’s concrete and how it’s put together, we’re not taking a position on it.”
