Women Crossing Street Hit by Car
Two women who were struck by a car as they crossed Coast Highway were in stable condition Wednesday.
Joann Daubert, 62, of Los Angeles and Betty Kelly, about 70, of Newport Beach were in front of Villa Nova Inc. restaurant in the 3100 block of Coast Highway about 10 p.m. Tuesday when they were struck by a car heading east, Police Lt. Tim Newman said.
The women were not in a crosswalk, he said.
“There are around 30 restaurants there,” Newman said. “A lot of people park their cars in off-site parking facilities and they don’t go to the light to cross the street.”
Daubert was airlifted to UCI Medical Center in Orange with a fractured pelvis and wrist and a broken leg. Kelly suffered a fractured pelvis and a broken leg and was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.
