A man who was shot to death after allegedly entering a North Hollywood home and beating the resident inside was identified by Los Angeles police Tuesday as Ronald Wayne Wanek.

The incident began Sunday evening when Wanek, 36, and Sean Mitchell, 39, entered a house in the 11300 block of Miranda Street and began beating Tony Friedrich, 34, police said. Friedrich grabbed his shotgun and fired on his assailants, striking both of them.

Wanek ran outside and collapsed on the street, where he died of his wounds. Mitchell was transported in serious condition to a hospital.

Police said the motive for the beating appeared to be a dispute between Friedrich and the men that began nine months ago.

Investigators have not determined the nature of the dispute.
