VENTURA : Driver Dies After Collision With Bus
A driver whose car was broadsided by a bus when he made a U-turn on a Ventura Freeway ramp has died from his injuries, officials said Wednesday.
Floyd Engel, a 58-year-old Ventura resident, died late Tuesday at Ventura County Medical Center from injuries sustained in the accident earlier this week, a coroner’s official said. His former wife, a passenger in the car, also died in the crash Monday.
California Highway Patrol investigators said Engel was driving his 1983 Renault Alliance onto the northbound Ventura Freeway at Main Street north of Ventura about 11 a.m. Monday.
For unknown reasons, he began making a U-turn before reaching the freeway, and a converted bus driven by a 21-year-old Ventura man crashed into the car, the CHP said.
Mardelle Lou Mason-Engel, 64, was thrown around the vehicle as it was dragged 145 feet by the bus, investigators said. She died later at the hospital.
