After pitching 6 2/3 no-hit innings, Carlos Perez had to rest his sore back in the Montreal clubhouse and watch in dismay as Expos’ closer Mel Rojas fell apart in the ninth.

Barry Bonds had a run-scoring double and David McCarty won the game with an RBI single, his first National League hit, as the San Francisco Giants rallied for two runs in the ninth to beat the Expos, 2-1, Monday at San Francisco.

Perez, pitching for the first time in 14 days, left the game in the seventh without having allowed a hit because he was limited to a specific number of pitches. He walked one and allowed another batter to reach base on his own error.

“I knew they were going to take me out early today. I didn’t think they were going to let me go that far,” said Perez, a rookie who had not pitched since Aug. 22 because of a suspension and a stiff lower back. “I need to take care of myself. I can’t miss a start.”

Deion Sanders led off with a single and scored on Bonds’ double to left-center. Matt Williams was intentionally walked and two outs later, McCarty singled inside third base to drive in Bonds.

The Giants got their first hit with two outs in the eighth--a soft single to center by pinch-hitter Glenallen Hill off Gil Heredia.
