OUTLOOK

The Streak may be over--unbeaten in a section-record 47 consecutive games before bowing to Mater Dei 28-24 in the playoffs--but the winning isn’t. The Griffins aren’t loaded, they’re bursting at the seams. Los Alamitos returns nearly everyone from last year’s squad, ranging from Superprep preseason All-American pick Guyness to Far West regional preseason team selections Feterik and Hartley. They begin the season as the county’s (and the nation’s) top-ranked team. “I think we’re one of the top contenders,” Barnes said. “But if we lose, we won’t jump off bridges; there’s more to life than just football.” Perhaps, but somehow the pressure of trying to win their fourth section title in five years will seem easier without The Streak to worry about.
