Hydraulic Fluid Sprays 8 as Carnival Ride Malfunctions

Eight people were sprayed with hydraulic fluid Sunday when an oil line on a carnival ride in Lomita broke, but there were no serious injuries, a Los Angeles County Fire Department spokeswoman said.
A number of families were aboard a spinning ride at the 13th annual community fair, held at St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church, when the line broke about 1 p.m., parish administrator Don Garvey said.
“It just kind of gave everyone a bath of hydraulic fluid,” Garvey said.
Fair officials shut down the ride and urged families with children to visit a nearby hospital. One boy ingested some oil but vomited and was given a clean bill of health, Garvey said.
