Orange could not stop Saddleback’s Joseph Tagaloa in the first quarter. However the Panthers didn’t need to after scoring 23 points in the second quarter.

Forced to abandon its successful option, the Roadrunners could not keep up with the Panthers’ big pass plays as Saddleback lost, 44-14, Saturday night at El Modena.

Tagaloa had 111 yards rushing by the end of the first quarter as Saddleback was tied, 7-7, with Orange.

Tagaloa, 5 feet 6, 150 pounds, finished with 185 yards in only 11 carries. He scored on a 73-yard touchdown run with 4 minutes 53 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Tagaloa got a great down-field block by wide receiver Rudy Gomez.

However, the Panthers (2-0) shut down Saddleback by scoring the next 37 points.

Brian Maize started the scoring binge with a 56-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter.

After stopping Saddleback (0-2) on three plays, Anthony Adame returned a low punt 32 yards to the Saddleback 16-yard line. Markus Garza then ran the ball three consecutive times, taking it into the end zone from a yard out.

The Panther defense kept the pressure on Saddleback quarterback Danny Rodriguez, sacking him for the fourth time in the game on third and 18.

Terrence Williams then scored Orange’s third touchdown of the quarter, getting open on a play-action fake and catching a 16-yard touchdown pass from Shawn McCraw.

McCraw led the Orange offense with 144 yards passing, completing five of nine attempts.

Garza ran for 81 yards in 14 carries for Orange.
