SIMI VALLEY : Zone Shift Urged for Senior Housing Plan

Share

A pair of Simi Valley landowners who propose to build a senior citizens’ housing complex on 12 acres at the corner of Los Angeles Avenue and Stow Street are a step closer after a favorable Planning Commission ruling.

The commission on Wednesday directed the city planning staff to send the City Council a resolution recommending approval of a zone change and General Plan amendment. The land currently is zoned for a mobile home park.

But the recommendation includes a provision that property owners Robert and Starlene Barker restrict development to housing for senior citizens, since a zone change and plan amendment could otherwise allow a variety of uses.

The project is expected to be brought before the City Council next month, said planner Sam Freed.

The planning staff recommended the zone change and amendment because they said the property is located near amenities needed by seniors, including shopping areas and bus lines.
