Boy Hit by Car, in Critical Condition

A 5-year-old boy was in extremely critical condition Friday night after he was struck by a car when he ran into a busy street, authorities said.

The boy, who was not identified, was hit by an early model Ford Mustang about 6:15 p.m. in the 5000 block of Klump Avenue, and was thrown about 15 feet, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The boy had tire tracks on his chest and suffered head and internal injuries, Humphrey said.

Humphrey said the boy was taken to Childrens Hospital in Hollywood.

The driver of the Ford was uninjured, he said.

Police are investigating the accident, authorities said.
