A man was shot in the legs early Saturday when he tried to stop the burglary of his neighbor’s home on the Balboa Peninsula, police said.

The man, whose identity was not released by police, was hosting a party in the 100 block of 45th Street when the 2:20 a.m. incident occurred. People at the party saw four men removing stereo equipment from a house across the street and called police, said Sgt. Mike McDonough.

“Moments later, we received another 911 call advising us that the suspects had shot a male who was attempting to stop the burglary,” McDonough said. Officers found the man, who had been shot once, with the bullet going through both legs.

The man was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center. His injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

The four burglars apparently entered the home through an unlocked door while the resident inside was sleeping. They were seen driving away from the area in a dark-colored car, possibly a Honda, police said.
