SOUTHERN SECTION ROUNDUP : Hueneme Can’t Beat the Clock or Dos Pueblos

Share

Hueneme High had the rushing game going. It just wasn’t very good when it was rushed by the clock.

As a result, Dos Pueblos came away with a 31-27 Channel League victory Friday night at Dos Pueblos.

Hueneme (2-2, 0-1), trying to drive to its first Channel League victory in four years, couldnt run the two-minute drill. Hueneme’s Ronney Jenkins rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns in 27 carries. He scored on runs of 65, 29 and four yards. The final score trimmed the Chargers’ lead to 31-27 with four minutes remaining.

Fullback Saipole Sesagaiga added 123 yards and a nine-yard score as the Vikings gained 384 yards on the ground.

Hueneme got the ball back at its 44 with 1:24 remaining, but were forced to spike the ball three times to stop the clock. The Vikings got to the Dos Pueblos 31 with 40 seconds remaining, but George Jones’ pass into the endzone was wide of the mark on fourth down.

The Chargers (2-2, 1-0), who never trailed, were led by junior J.J. Bruner, who returned from a first-game injury, to rush for 100 yards in 10 carries, gained another 136 on eight receptions and scored two touchdowns.
