San Fernando : Council Votes to Lower City Park Fees

Share

The San Fernando City Council has voted to cut the prices the city charges for use of its various recreation facilities.

“We found that the facilities weren’t being used as much as they were a few years ago, and we thought it’s probably because the fees were too high,” said Ed Montan, director of the city’s Recreation and Community Services Department. The fees are charged to youth athletic clubs and other, usually nonprofit, organizations.

The council also approved last week Montan’s request to allow parks department officials to approve permits to use the facilities.

Until recently, the City Council had reviewed and voted on each separate request to use ball fields, recreation rooms and gymnasiums.

“In some cases, it was taking more than a month to get the permits approved,” Montan said. “Now, we’ll be able to process the paperwork faster.”

The biggest recreation bargain: gymnasium use, Montan said. Previously, the city charged residents $40 per hour for use of the gym. The new rate is $20 an hour for residents, Montan said.
