COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : UCLA : Pac-10 Official Talks to Edwards

Share

Linebacker Donnie Edwards met with David Price, Pacific 10 Conference associate commissioner, on Wednesday to discuss his alleged contact with sports agent Robert Troy Caron. Edwards, who has sat out the last two games because of a neck injury, reportedly accepted $150 in food from Caron.

Price said that he will continue to gather information on the matter and that there isn’t a timetable on a conclusion. Coach Terry Donahue said Edwards will remain on the team until a decision has been reached.

Senior strong safety Ted Nwoke, suspended from the team last week for a violation of team rules, was reinstated after a Tuesday meeting with Donahue.

After producing one standout defensive back after another, UCLA has been without a celebrated player in the secondary the last two seasons. That does not mean, however, that the Bruins lack talent or leadership in their defensive backfield, according to cornerback Paul Guidry.

“A leader really hasn’t stepped forward yet in the secondary,” Guidry said. “We all take turns. One day it might be Javelin [Guidry’s younger brother], then the next day it might be Teddy [Lawrence] or Glenn [Thompkins]. It really varies depending on the time.

“We feel that is good because you can’t always depend on one person to get it done. We all have to make plays.”
