Raymond Ohrel scored three touchdowns as Costa Mesa dominated Santa Ana, 22-0, in a nonleague football game Saturday night at Santa Ana Stadium.

Ohrel, who finished with 166 yards in 28 carries, scored all three Costa Mesa touchdowns in the first half.

The first came after Santa Ana punter Moises Torres had the ball snapped over his head and was tackled on the Saints’ 13-yard line. Ohrel scored on a seven-yard run to give the Mustangs (3-2) a 7-0 lead.

Ohrel then capped a 66-yard Mustang drive with another seven-yard touchdown run.

Costa Mesa got the ball again with 1:14 left in the first half. With 10 seconds left until halftime, quarterback Chris Mokede found Ohrel with a 40-yard touchdown pass to take a 20-0 lead.

Santa Ana (1-4) was ineffective against the Mustang defense. The Saints gained 120 total yards, 116 of which belonged to running back Ladon Robinson. The Saints were unable to complete a pass and two passes were intercepted.

The Mustangs held Santa Ana to seven first downs and forced a safety late in the game. Robinson had just taken a handoff when he was hit in the end zone by Costa Mesa’s Steve Herzog, Jeremy Jehangiri and Kurtis Van Horn, giving the Mustangs a 22-0 lead with 4:55 to play.

Santa Ana threatened once, reaching Costa Mesa’s 23-yard line midway through the second quarter. But an incomplete pass on fourth down ended the drive.

It was the only time Santa Ana’s offense crossed the 50-yard line.

In another nonleague game:

Sun Valley Village Christian 14, Whittier Christian 10--Chris Vanderbrook connected on a 74-yard scoring pass play with Luke Dillon early in the fourth quarter to move Whittier Christian (1-4) within four points, but that was as close as the Heralds would get.

Matt Pike completed 14 of 23 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns to lead Village Christian (3-2).
