A BEACH BECKONS: Keith Till, the city manager of San Marino, is leaving his position for a life at the beach. In this case, Seal Beach.

Till, 42, will become city manager of the Orange County municipality next month, following approval of his hiring Monday by the Seal Beach City Council.

“We are very disappointed to see him leaving,” said San Marino Mayor Bernie LeSage. “But we understand that Seal Beach is about twice the size of San Marino, with many different challenges.”

Till could not be reached for comment.

LeSage credits Till, who has been city manager for five years, with guiding the wealthy enclave of 13,000 residents through economically tough times and developing the city’s first five-year capital improvement program.

Seal Beach council members said those skills prompted them to hire Till.

“He inherited a lot of problems when he came to San Marino,” Seal Beach Councilman George Brown said. “He helped straighten out the finances of the city.”
