COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOOTBALL : Saddleback Hopes to Build on Success When It Meets Winless Fullerton

Saddleback hopes to extend its winning streak to two games, and Fullerton is looking for its first victory of the season when the teams meet in a Mission Conference Central Division game at 7 tonight at Saddleback.

Saddleback (2-2, 1-0) is coming off its best game of the season, a 44-7 victory over Southwestern. Fullerton (0-3-1, 0-0) is also coming off its best game, a 14-14 tie with Cerritos.

Saddleback, which has won every other week so far, is led by quarterback Justin Vedder (560 yards, one touchdown) and Jermey Carr (257 yards, two touchdowns).

Fullerton quarterback Eric Hannah has thrown for six touchdowns and run for one but has been knocked out of two of the last three games.

The teams have split the previous 10 meetings, with the average margin of victory 17 points.

In other Central Division games:

Rancho Santiago (2-2, 1-0) vs. Golden West (2-3, 0-1), Orange Coast College, 1:30 p.m.--Rancho Santiago is coming off a 30-6 victory over Riverside in which the defense gave up 81 yards. Defensive tackle Perry Dionisiou had three sacks and James Stewart got his fourth interception. He returned it 52 yards for a touchdown, his second such score of the year.

Golden West lost to rival Orange Coast, 31-28, last week.The Rustlers trailed, 28-7, rallied to tie it, 28-28, then had time run out at the OCC 17-yard line.

Golden West is getting strong performances from wide receiver Wesley Morris and tight end B.J. Crabtree. Morris has 26 catches for 388 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned a kickoff 100 yards against OCC. Crabtree has 26 catches for 266 yards and four touchdowns.

Charles Chatman has rushed for 305 yards and three touchdowns. The Rustlers have been outscored, 63-28, in the first quarter this season.

In a Mission Conference game:

San Diego Mesa (0-4) at Orange Coast (1-3), 7 p.m.--Orange Coast’s offense had its best performance of the season in last week’s victory over Golden West. William League had 141 yards, including an OCC-record 91-yard touchdown run. He has 299 yards in 45 yards for the season.

Inside linebackers Steve Gonzalez (42 tackles) and Matt Burns (40) lead the defense. J.J. Smith, an outside linebacker, leads the team with three sacks.

OCC will honor its 1975 national championship team during halftime.
