Running back John Wilkie rushed for 148 yards and Fullerton’s defense recorded its second consecutive shutout and third of the season as the Indians beat Buena Park, 35-0, Friday night in a Freeway League game.

Fullerton improved to 6-1 and 2-0 in league. Buena Park is 0-7, 0-2.

Wilkie scored on a 58-yard touchdown run with six minutes 59 seconds left in the first quarter to put Fullerton ahead, 7-0.

Fullerton forced turnovers on Buena Park’s next two possessions. Francisco Lopez recovered a fumble by Coyote running back Ruben Gasso, then Joseph Emigh intercepted a Brian McDonald pass at Buena Park’s 13-yard line.

Two plays later, David Barrios scored on a seven-yard run to make the score 14-0 with 2:27 left in the first quarter.

Fullerton scored again with 1:25 left in the first half when Michael Garner caught a 30-yard pass from Gabriel Almanza for a 21-0 lead.

The Indians limited Buena Park to minus-one yard on the ground in the first half.

“They [the defense] worked really hard,” Fullerton Coach Julian Smilowitz said. “Everyone works really hard at it.”

Barrios scored his second touchdown, a two-yard run, with 3:43 left in the third quarter to make it 28-0.

The final score came with 3:28 left, on a nine-yard run by Trevor Brown.

Fullerton held the Coyotes to 42 yards on the ground in 25 carries. The Indians rushed for 236 yards in 38 carries.
