Share

Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and seriously injured a Santa Ana woman Tuesday as she was crossing the street near a bus stop, police said.

Raquel Arriaza, 31, was in critical condition after the accident, which occurred just before 6 a.m. on Bristol Street near Glenwood Place.

Witnesses told police they saw two cars near the accident scene, but investigators were unsure whether either motorist was involved or simply in the area.

Witnesses in passing vehicles told police the cars may have been Hondas or Toyotas. Investigators suspect the car that struck Arriaza was a silver 1974-77 Toyota Corolla.

Authorities said Arriaza was found just south of a crosswalk, directly across from a bus stop, perhaps on her way to work. She was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where she is being treated for serious trauma to the head and body.

Police requested that anyone with information call investigators at (714) 647-5084.
