Two San Fernando Valley residents have been appointed to represent the area at two national conferences in Washington, Rep. Howard P. (Buck) McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) has announced.

Jayne Shapiro, a former registered nurse and civic leader from Granada Hills, was a delegate earlier this week at the Women Leaders Summit in Washington.

The conference, held for the first time, brought together women in business, government and community organizations as a preliminary step toward establishing a council of women advisers to Congress.

Northridge resident C.K. Tseng, chairman of the board of Northridge Travel Service and a delegate to a Washington conference on small businesses last year, will attend the White House Conference on Travel and Tourism beginning Sunday.

As many as 1,700 representatives are expected at the first national gathering on the travel industry, according to McKeon’s office.

Armando Azarloza, McKeon’s spokesman, said the two were selected to represent the Valley portion of the 25th Congressional District at the conferences because of their “strong leadership qualities” and “strong industry views.”

“They can provide valuable insights on a national level--from a California perspective,” Azarloza said.
