EMPIRE LEAGUE : Haas Helps Kennedy Roll Over Katella, 41-21

Tom Haas completed 15 of 18 passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns to lead Kennedy to a 41-21 victory over Katella in an Empire League football game Thursday night at Glover Stadium.

Garrett Sabol had eight catches for 185 yards, including touchdowns of 73 and 34 yards. Sabol also had 111 yards in return yardage and caught a two-point conversion.

Kennedy (7-1, 3-0 in league) scored first on a two-yard touchdown run by Darin Martineau in the first quarter. The Knights tied the score when Dustin Goetz scored from the one with 9 minutes 50 seconds left in the second quarter.

Haas hit Sabol with a pass in full stride for a 73-yard touchdown with 9:04 left in the second quarter. The Knights tied the score again when Art Tiscareno returned the kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown.

Kennedy took the lead for good with 1:29 left in the first half on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Haas to Tom Hundley.

The Irish added three touchdowns in the third quarter. Sabol scored on a 34-yard touchdown pass, Martineau scored from the 23 and Jim Edwards picked up a fumble and returned it 16 yards for the final Kennedy score.

Katella (1-7, 0-3) scored a touchdown with 49 seconds left in the game on a two-yard run by Goetz.

Haas completed 12 of 14 passes for 188 yards in the first half. The Irish held a 223-81 total yardage edge in the first half but led by only one touchdown.
