All season, Penn State Coach Joe Paterno has been imploring his defense to play aggressively and force more turnovers. Unfortunately for Indiana, Nittany Lion linebacker Terry Killens got the message Saturday.

“He was playing like a madman,” cornerback Brian Miller said after No. 16 Penn State defeated Indiana, 45-21, at State College, Pa. “I had to calm him down.”

Killens forced a fumble, had four sacks and scored a touchdown after blocking a punt.

“I just wanted to get a good jump off the ball and get in the quarterback’s face,” Killens said. “I wanted to cause havoc back there.”

Penn State, 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the Big Ten, forced five turnovers, four on consecutive first-half possessions by Indiana (2-6, 0-5), as Hoosier quarterback Chris Dittoe, in his first game back after a knee injury, was under pressure throughout.

“We’re just not a sound team,” Coach Bill Mallory said. “We just make costly mistakes. It got away from us early and we couldn’t get back and make a game of it.”

No. 9 Michigan 52, Minnesota 17--Brian Griese matched a school record with four touchdown passes and Tshimanga Biakabutuka ran for two as the Wolverines routed the Golden Gophers at Ann Arbor, Mich., in the annual battle for the Little Brown Jug.

Griese, making perhaps his last start in place of injured Scott Dreisbach, completed 14 of 19 passes for 271 yards for Michigan (7-1, 3-1). Griese is 3-1 in starts since Dreisbach broke his right thumb.

Amani Toomer had 177 yards on five catches, including touchdowns of 75 and 52 yards against the Golden Gophers (3-4, 1-3).

Biakabutuka, who has rushed for 100 or more yards five times this season, had 196 yards in 19 carries, including touchdown runs of 52 and 16 yards. He has 997 yards for the season and is three yards shy of 2,000 for his career.

Wisconsin 45, Michigan State 14--Darrell Bevell threw for 265 yards and three touchdowns and redshirt freshman Cecil Martin ran for two scores as the Badgers won at Madison, Wis.

Wisconsin (3-3-1, 2-2) took advantage of 10 Michigan State penalties in snapping a two-game losing streak and beat the Spartans (4-3-1, 2-2-1) for only the second time since 1985.

The Badgers sacked Tony Banks seven times and picked off three of his passes. They didn’t have to worry much about the run with tailbacks Marc Renaud (knee) and Duane Goulbourne (leg) out.
