A 17-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday in the weekend shooting deaths of two young brothers who had just left a Compton party, police said.

The brothers, 12-year-old Bobby Millan and 14-year-old Mario Millan, were killed late Saturday night by assault weapon shots fired from a car that was chasing the truck in which they rode.

The motive for the shooting was gang-related, Compton police said. Detectives identified the suspected killer and obtained an arrest warrant for him Wednesday afternoon. A few hours later, Compton gang unit officers stopped a group of gang members, one of whom was the teen-age suspect, police said. He was booked and transported to Juvenile Hall. The car wanted in connection with the homicide was seized.

In addition, two juvenile gang members were arrested on suspicion of possessing firearms and a juvenile was arrested on an outstanding warrant, police said. Two handguns were recovered.

Late Saturday night, the Millan brothers, their sister and two others in the truck had just left a party that was attended by gang members, said Compton Police Lt. William Wallace.

As they drove away from the party they noticed that another vehicle with several people inside was following them.

It might have been a case of mistaken identity, Wallace said. The vehicle pursued them for a few blocks and the 17-year-old fired at the brothers’ truck, police said.

Within a few blocks, the others in the truck noticed that the brothers, who were sitting in back, had been hit. They pulled over and called police.

The brothers were pronounced dead at the scene. The three others in the truck were not hurt.
