ROUNDUP : West’s 4 Goals Lift Northridge, 6-3

Keith West scored four goals to lead Cal State Northridge to a 6-3 nonconference men’s soccer victory over The Master’s on Thursday night at North Campus Stadium.

West raised his season total to 20 goals. West’s goal at the 43-minute mark of the first half gave Northridge a (9-7-2) a 3-2 lead. West also had an assist.

Juan Sastoque had two goals and two assists for Northridge, and Ron Lou also had two assists. Goalie Zoltan Nagy had two saves.

Francisco Jose Belmar, Blake Gillen and Lucas Principe scored for Master’s (9-9). Goalie Kris Bage had six saves.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Cal Lutheran d. Pomona-Pitzer, 15-5, 15-8, 15-8--Tracy Little had 13 kills and Karen Kasper added 12 kills as host Cal Lutheran (23-2, 12-0) became the first team since 1991 to finish undefeated in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Liz Martinez led Cal Lutheran with 30 assists.

Heather Pilatic led Pomona-Pitzer (17-11, 4-8) with 12 kills and Natalie Dixon had 30 assists.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Nordhoff 15, Moorpark 53, Santa Paula 90, Santa Clara 99, Calabasas 114--Will Bernaldo, in his second meet back after a bout with mononucleosis, led a Nordhoff sweep of the first five places in the Frontier League finals at Lake Casitas.

Bernaldo, sixth in last year’s State Division I championships, timed 15 minutes 38 seconds over the three-mile course. Teammates Victor Ochoa (15:43), Dusty Herman (15:56), Omar Vega (16:07) and Mason Moore (16:18) rounded out the scoring. The two-time defending state Division III champions posted a team time of 79:42, nearly three minutes faster than last week’s time in the Ventura County championships.

Hoover 18, Crescenta Valley 61, Glendale 66, Arcadia 102, Muir 134--David Lopez and Felipe Montoro of Hoover placed first and second as the Tornadoes had five of the top six finishers in the Pacific League meet at Crescenta Valley Park.

Lopez timed 15:52 over the three-mile course to win his second league title in the last three years. Montoro clocked 16:13 in second with Wilson Aquino (16:17), Isabel Casillas (16:34) and Jamal Balouch (16:43) following in fourth, fifth and sixth for Hoover, the No. 3-ranked team in the state Division I poll.

Monroe 24, Poly 64, Sylmar 79, Van Nuys 122, North Hollywood 127, Reseda 143--Monroe, paced by the second-place finish of Ali BenMohamed, took five of the top eight places in the Valley Pac-8 Conference finals at Pierce College.

Uzziel Gray of Poly placed first with a time of 15:37 over the three-mile course with BenMohamed at 15:50.

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Nordhoff 16, Moorpark 54, Thacher 85, Santa Clara 126, Calabasas 146--The Rangers, paced by winner Elaine Canchola, swept the first four places and took six of the top seven in the Frontier League finals at Lake Casitas.

Canchola moved to third on the all-time course list with a time of 17:57 for the three-mile distance. Teammates Terrah Chapin (19:08), Bridie Hatch (19:25) and Beth Zacher (19:49) followed.

Buena 37, Dos Pueblos 55, Rio Mesa 88, Santa Barbara 99, Ventura 132, San Marcos 141, Hueneme 201, Oxnard 219--Stacy Hebert placed first and teammate Barb Almaraz finished third to pace Buena to its 13th consecutive title in the Channel League finals at College Park.

Hebert, a standout 300-meter hurdler competing in her first season of cross-country, timed 18:17 over the three-mile course to turn back defending league champion Alyson MacIntosh (18:21) of Ventura. Almaraz clocked 18:35.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Taft 4, Granada Hills 3--Melody Abrams of visiting Taft (8-5, 6-4) held service in the last game of her No. 3 singles set to pull out an 8-6 victory over Reina Kobayashi, to help beat the Highlanders (11-2, 9-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference match.

Calabasas 9, Nordhoff 9--The visiting Coyotes (15-2) won on games, 75-57, led by Shera Weigler’s 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 1 singles in the nonleague match.

Nordhoff (11-8) won all nine doubles sets.

Harvard-Westlake 16, St. Joseph 2--Harvard’s top doubles team of Sheila Vasan and Vicki Koven recorded three victories to finish 39-0 in Mission League play. The Wolverines (16-3 overall) finished 14-0.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Harvard-Westlake d. Chaminade 15-6, 15-8, 15-8--The host Wolverines (12-1, 10-0) won their fourth consecutive Mission League championship behind strong play by Lesley Coben and Bettina Korek, who each had 11 kills.
