As each of the Philadelphia Flyers entered the Spectrum for Sunday night’s game against Hartford, the bad news spread.

The injury suffered last week by Eric Lindros, their captain and the league’s MVP, wasn’t minor as first thought.

Lindros has been diagnosed with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee, which would likely sideline him well into December.

“With this kind of injury you really can’t ride a bike or run,’ Lindros said. ‘I’m doing upper body and cardiovascular work and that’s going well. I’m not in a lot of pain.”

On the ice, Lindros’ linemates, Mikael Renberg and John LeClair, had three points each as Philadelphia rolled to a 6-1 victory over the Whalers.

Colorado 7, Chicago 3--Joe Sakic had two goals and three assists at Chicago to help the Avalanche extend its winning streak to a franchise-record eight games.

Chris Simon, Peter Forsberg, Valeri Kamensky, Curtis Leschyshyn and Claude Lemieux also scored for Colorado.

Winnipeg 4, Buffalo 3--Darren Turcotte scored with 1:09 to play at Buffalo.

While twisting, Turcotte one-timed a loose puck past Dominik Hasek for his fifth goal of the season and gave the Jets their first victory in Buffalo since January, 1987.

Florida 4, Tampa Bay 1--Rookie Radek Dvorak scored two goals at Miami. Florida’s John Vanbiesbrouck lost a chance at his 22nd shutout when the Lightning scored with 4:32 to play.
