Laguna Beach and El Dorado were top-seeded in the Southern Section girls’ tennis playoff pairings.
Laguna Beach (17-3), in search of its fourth consecutive section title, faces a possible matchup with undefeated Villa Park in the Division II final. The Spartans are seeded second and feature one of the section’s best players, junior Faye DeVera.
El Dorado (19-1) could get a rematch with second-seeded Pasadena Poly (16-2), which defeated the Golden Hawks in the Division II final last season. El Dorado will play the winner of the wild-card match between Covina Charter Oak and Upland.
Defending champion Palos Verdes Peninsula (20-0) was top-seeded in the Division I draw and Santa Barbara (18-1) was seeded second. Corona del Mar (14-3), the Sea View League champion and the top-ranked team in Orange County, is seeded third and second-ranked Woodbridge (18-2), the No. 2 Sea View League team, is seeded fourth.
The Sea View League, traditionally the strongest tennis league in the section, sent four teams to playoffs--more than any other league. Third-place Newport Harbor (13-6) earned an automatic berth and fourth-place Santa Margarita was given an at-large bid.
