VENTURA COUNTY WEEKEND : Bagel Station a Good Spot for a Quick Fill-Up : A variety--from egg to ‘everything’--is found at the Oxnard shop with a service-station theme.

If you’re in the market for a bagel--freshly boiled and baked--you may want to check out The Bagel Station at the Shopping at the Rose center in Oxnard.

In keeping with a service-station theme, customers can choose from a menu of breakfast “Starters,” featuring several scrambled-egg-and-bagel dishes, “Under the Hood” sandwiches, “nuts and bolts” (muffins and cinnamon rolls) and “Pistons” (a bagel pretzel, a bagel dog and a bagel pizza). As for the individual bagels, there is a selection of egg, onion, water, sesame, salt, garlic, pumpernickel, wheat, jalapeno, raisin, cinnamon raisin, blueberry, cheese onion, orange cranberry, and an everything bagel, along with bialys. They are priced at 45 cents and 55 cents.

The Bagel Station is located at 2051 N. Rose Ave.

Wines from The Ojai Vineyard will be featured Monday at the winemaker’s dinner at Giovanni’s Restaurant in Camarillo.

The evening will begin with a pre-meal glass of Sauvignon Blanc blended with Semillon. The meal itself will open with a salad served with a Sauvignon Blanc, followed by scallops in pastry shells with a Chardonnay butter sauce, accompanied by a Chardonnay. Next will be a rigatoni-and-chicken dish, served with tomatoes and asparagus in cream sauce, with the vineyard’s Ojai Red.

For the main course, grilled salmon and herbs will be washed down with a Syrah. Dessert and coffee will wrap up the evening. The cost is $45 per person, tax and tip included. Call 484-4376. Giovanni’s is located at 5227 Mission Oaks Blvd.

Ventura’s Pastabilities Restaurant will offer a wine-tasting, cigar-sampling dinner Sunday.

A selection of four wines, one cognac and four cigars will accompany the five-course meal, which will begin with a Mozzarella Marinara (baked cheese in a tomato sauce). Next will be a Caesar salad, followed by bow tie pasta with mushrooms and sweet red onion, served in a creamy Marsala sauce.

Roasted New Zealand lamb chops marinated in fresh herbs and balsamic vinegar, with roasted garlic and spinach, will be served for the main course. Dessert will be a tiramisu.
