Oil Spills From Line Near Bardsdale
About 100 gallons of crude oil leaked into the ground along South Mountain Road west of Bardsdale on Saturday, according to Ventura County fire officials.
The oil--which spilled from a low-pressure, low-volume pipeline owned by Vintage Petroleum--was contained in a 64-square-foot hole on the shoulder of the road in front of Vintage at 17956 S. Mountain Road, said Ventura County Fire Capt. Ed Ornelas.
While trying to repair the leak, which fire officials said may have been caused by corrosion, workers from the petroleum company struck a gas line serving one residence at about 4 p.m.
Ventura County fire officials closed South Mountain Road for about an hour until the gas line could be shut off.
