HIGH BOND VALUE IN EIGHT 007 VIDEOS

Eight James Bond films are being re-released Tuesday by MGM/UA Home Video in conjunction with the theatrical premiere of the latest Agent 007 espionage thriller “GoldenEye.”

The videos in “The James Bond 007 Collection,” priced at $15 each, include “Dr. No,” “From Russia With Love,” “Goldfinger,” “Thunderball,” “You Only Live Twice” and “Diamonds Are Forever.” All six starred Sean Connery. Also in this release are “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” with Australian George Lazenby in his only film as Bond, and “Live and Let Die” with Roger Moore.

Timothy Dalton also played Bond in two films (not in this release), “The Living Daylights” and “License to Kill.” Roger Moore starred in seven James Bond films and Connery was in six.

The videos are also being offered in three gift sets and are a way to get into the “License to Thrill” sweepstakes in which the grand prize is a 1996 BMW Z3 Roadster, driven in “GoldenEye” by the latest Bond, Pierce Brosnan.

The Deluxe Edition Bond 007 Gift Set at $90 contains all six films in which Connery stars and bonus cassettes of “Behind-the-Scenes With Thunderball” and “Behind-the-Scenes With Goldfinger.” The Volume 1 Gift Set at $45 contains “Dr. No,” “From Russia With Love,” “Goldfinger” and the bonus “Goldfinger” cassette. The Volume 2 Gift Set, also $45, has “Thunderball,” “You Only Live Twice,” “Diamonds Are Forever” and the “Thunderball” bonus tape.

The bonus tapes help introduce the younger set to the most popular high-tech adventure series of all time. The young ones may need a little background to Bond, and his women, especially concerning the early movies in the series that spanned 27 years, from 1962 to 1989.

“Dr. No” was the first James Bond film, with Connery stepping aside after “Diamonds Are Forever” in 1971. Moore took over from 1973 to 1985. Dalton filmed two in 1987 and 1989. Lazenby’s lone film was made in 1969.
