Judge Denies Cypress’ Appeal

A municipal judge denied a request for a restraining order filed by football boosters from Cypress High as a result of the team’s disqualification from the Southern Section Division V football playoffs.
A Southern Section spokesman said the court’s action Thursday reaffirmed a decision made by Empire League principals last week that stripped Cypress of victories over Katella and Loara, based on the ineligibility of a Cypress player. That decision put Loara in the playoffs.
The suit was filed by Cypress boosters claiming that since the coaches and administration were unaware the player was ineligible, the entire team should not be punished.
“We’re disappointed, but not surprised,” booster club president Nick Eighmy said. “We wanted to show the players we support them.”
