Malaefou MacKenzie and Charlie Landrigan combined for 187 yards rushing and four touchdowns in the first half as Capistrano Valley jumped to a 27-point lead en route to a 30-10 victory over Rialto Eisenhower Friday night.

The first-round Division I victory moves the Cougars into the second round, where they will play host to second-seeded Long Beach Poly next Friday.

So overwhelming was the victory that Eisenhower didn’t get its second first down of the game until only two seconds were left in the first half.

Eisenhower (8-3) got good position at midfield after an interception by Curtis Davis-King on the first play of the game, but settled for a 37-yard field goal by Danny Polmounter.

The Cougars then took complete control. MacKenzie capped a 76-yard, seven-play drive, with a 21-yard touchdown run with 3 minutes 44 seconds left in the first quarter to give Capistrano Valley the lead.

Landrigan scored from the two with 11:09 left in the half to start a 23-point second-quarter burst. After a Mike Bingham fumble recovery, Landrigan scored again, this time from the 21.

Brett Thompson connected on a 50-yard field goal with 5:17 left to increase the lead to 24-3.

A fumble recovery by Blake Laidlaw set up MacKenzie’s nine-yard touchdown run. Capistrano Valley (9-2) had another chance to score with 10 seconds left in the first half, but Thompson’s 52-yard field-goal attempt was wide.

Eisenhower had the only score in the second half on a 31-yard touchdown pass from halfback Sam Blanche to Anthony Daisley midway through the third quarter.
