ORANGE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL / PREP EXTRA : DIVISION V : Walz Sparks Corona del Mar to Victory

Josh Walz passed for 214 yards and three touchdowns and ran for two more as Corona del Mar defeated Brea Olinda, 49-28, in a Division V playoff game Friday night at Orange Coast College.

The Sea Kings (8-3) advance to the second round next week against Kennedy.

After Jerome Owens tied the score, 7-7, on a six-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, Walz broke loose on a 61-yard touchdown run later in the quarter.

Corona del Mar scored 21 second-quarter points to put the game out of reach.

Tom O’Meara, who rushed for 142 yards in 23 carries, scored on an eight-yard run, and Walz hooked up with Darren MacDonald on a 14-yard pass play for a 28-7 lead.

The Wildcats cut the lead in half on a 67-yard touchdown pass, but Walz found Sky Conway open for five-yard touchdown and a 35-14 lead.

Walz and MacDonald connected on another touchdown covering 21 yards to open the third quarter and Walz added his second touchdown run of the game in the fourth quarter for the Sea Kings’ other score.
