Iowa State’s Troy Davis became only the fifth player in Division I-A to rush for 2,000 yards, but Brock Olivo had a bigger day and Missouri defeated the Cyclones, 45-31, Saturday at Columbia, Mo.

Davis had 180 yards in 24 carries to finish with 2,010 and join Barry Sanders, Marcus Allen, Mike Rozier and Rashaan Salaam--all Heisman Trophy winners--in the 2,000-yard club.

Both teams finish the season 3-8 overall and 6-1 in the Big Eight.

Olivo had 201 yards in 28 carries and a touchdown for Missouri, which avoided its first winless conference record since 1971 in this battle to escape the Big Eight basement.

Freshman quarterback Corby Jones added 136 yards in 22 carries and three scores, giving Missouri two 100-yard rushers in the same game for the first time since 1985.

The Tigers rushed for 473 yards overall. They took a 21-0 lead after only 9:02, and also scored on an interception and a blocked field goal.

Iowa State ended up in last instead as the Cyclones extended a winless slump on the road to 0-19-1.

In its last three games, Iowa State lost by a combined 167-52.

No. 15 Kansas 22, Oklahoma State 17--The Jayhawks countered every positive thing by the Cowboys with one of their own, and did a better job of staying away from negative plays for a victory at Sillwater, Okla., that gave them their first nine-victory season since 1968.

Kansas (9-2, 5-2) was able to move the ball on the ground and also got solid passing from Mark Williams to beat Oklahoma State for the sixth time in a row.

The Cowboys (3-7, 2-5) threw the ball well enough--Kansas couldn’t defend tight end Alonzo Mayes--but they had a tough time running and killed themselves with mistakes.

“Ecstatic might be the word to be 9-2,” said Kansas Coach Glen Mason, whose team now awaits a bowl invitation. “There is a special bunch of kids in that locker room.”

Williams threw a touchdown pass to Ashaundi Smith in the first quarter and scored the go-ahead touchdown on an 11-yard bootleg in the fourth. Williams completed 11 of 17 passes for 141 yards and ran 12 times for 74 yards.

Oklahoma State was coming off its first victory over Oklahoma in 19 years and played well for the third consecutive week. But two fumbles and an interception killed the Cowboys.
