Villa Park (8-3) vs. El Toro (9-2), Trabuco Hills HS, 7:30 p.m.
Third-seeded El Toro dominated the second-half of play in its 24-14, first-round victory over Savanna. Villa Park, on the other hand, won a close game over El Dorado (7-4), scoring with one minute 30 seconds to play for a 23-20 victory. El Toro has a roster that could fill a small amphitheater and tends to wear down its opponents, beating them after halftime. Villa Park, which starts five players on both offense and defense could fall victim to El Toro’s deep roster. Villa Park quarterback Sam Stremick, who has completed 49.7% of his passes for 1,295 yards and 10 touchdowns, also starts at safety. Other two-way starters for the Spartans are: Sean Mahoney, fullback and linebacker; James Christman, center and defensive line; Ryan McQuown, offensive tackle and defensive line; and Dan DeClark, guard and defensive end. El Toro’s Steve Krupp has completed 63.9% of his passes for 1,905 yards and 17 touchdowns.
