SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

L.A. Baptist High discovered quickly Friday night that it wasn’t going to stop Valley Christian running back Kenchasa Amos.

A short time later, the Knights learned they would have trouble defending the pass, too.

Amos ran for four touchdowns--including two in the first quarter--and caught a pass for another to lead Valley Christian to a 50-28 victory over L.A. Baptist in a Southern Section Division X quarterfinal at Valley Christian.

The top-ranked Crusaders (11-1) gained 447 yards, including 233 rushing by Amos in 22 carries. Kirk Saarloos added 164 yards and two touchdowns, completing 13 of 17 passes.

L.A. Baptist (6-6) had won six in a row since opening with five consecutive losses.

Knight quarterback Peter Dirksen accounted for all of his team’s touchdowns. The sophomore rushed for touchdowns of two yards and one yard and threw scoring strikes covering 33 yards to Josh Highsmith and eight yards to Brian Feirfeil.
