Long Beach Still Winless, 52-45
Leon Derricks scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Detroit beat Long Beach State, 52-45, Saturday.
Detroit (1-0) hit 55% of its field-goal attempts; Long Beach (0-2) made only 32%. The Titans made only 15 of 33 free throws; Long Beach made 10 of 17.
Detroit lost its lead only once, at 12:38 in the first half when a three-point shot by Rasul Salahuddin put Long Beach State up, 15-12. The Titans regained the advantage about two minutes later on a jumper by Derricks and never trailed again.
Detroit led, 35-26, at the half.
Jermaine Jackson scored 11 points for Detroit. James Cotton led Long Beach State with 12 points, and Akeli Jackson had 12 rebounds.
